There are no two alike women in this world. However, doing categorisation is sometimes useful or fun to do. When you befriend someone, do you unconsciously categorise him or her as belonging to a group? Sometimes, I do. So I begin to ask myself: what about the girls that guys date? She always looks good, but has a low level of self-control, especially when she sees sale items. Miss Fashionista is quite self-explanatory. She almost always wears high heels and make up, and never gets caught having that horrible just-woken-up look from bed. Pros : Your parents love her, and your friends envy you for having such a beauty by your side. She always smells good, and somehow it boosts your pride level.

If you’ve ever come out of a bad relationship and decided you need to date someone different from your usual “type,” you’re not alone. However, new research by social psychologists at the University of Toronto U of T suggests that might be easier said than done. A study published today in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows people often look for love with the same type of person over and over again. Using data from an ongoing multi-year study on couples and families across several age groups, Park and co-author Geoff MacDonald, a professor in the Department of Psychology at U of T, compared the personalities of current and past partners of people.

Their primary finding was the existence of a significant consistency in the personalities of an individual’s romantic partners. Participants in the study along with a sample of current and past partners, assessed their own personality traits related to agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism, and openness to experience. They were polled on how much they identified with a series of statements such as, “I am usually modest and reserved,” “I am interested in many different kinds of things” and “I make plans and carry them out.

Park and MacDonald’s analysis of the responses showed that overall, the current partners of individuals described themselves in ways that were similar to past partners. By examining first-person testimonials of someone’s partners rather than relying on someone’s own description of them, the work accounts for biases found in other studies. On the other hand, Park says the strategies people learn to manage their partner’s personality can also be negative, and that more research is needed to determine how much meeting someone similar to an ex-partner is a plus, and how much it’s a minus when moving to a new relationship.

The data for the research comes from the German Family Panel study launched in , an ongoing longitudinal study on couple and family dynamics with a nationally representative sample of adolescents, young adults, and midlife individuals in Germany. Materials provided by University of Toronto.

Signing up agrees to our terms of use. Healthy relationships are a two-way street. Two people, each becoming the best they can be for themselves—and eventually, for one another. However, when it does come time to date, there are some traits you should probably avoid. This woman thinks that somehow, relationships are all about her. In other words, she expects you to take on the sort of leadership role that leaves her without much of a role to play at all—or even an identity to call her own.

Those with borderline personality disorder have problems regulating emotional impulses and often experience rocky relationships. But new research suggests that many men find traits associated with borderline personality disorder to be appealing in physically attractive women. The study has been published online in the journal Personality and Individual Differences. The relationship is like a roller coaster where the highs are very high and the lows are very low — this is why people probably stay in these types of relationships, because of the uncertainty and drama.

In two studies, which included English-speaking adults, participants were asked to evaluate the dating appeal of hypothetical individuals. The participants viewed a facial photograph of each target individual, along with a brief biography. The profiles varied in their level of facial attractiveness, psychopathic and borderline personality traits, and wealth. In line with previous research, Blanchard and her colleagues found that personality traits and wealth status were the most important factors in predicting dating appeal among female participants.

Women in the study tended to prefer partners who were high in wealth and low in psychopathic traits, even when they were rated as low in facial attractiveness. Previous research had been equivocal with regards to whether women are attracted to bad boys, and the findings from this study suggest they are not, at least in comparison to men who are less discerning.

What you do with this information is up to you. Attraction is an incredibly subjective matter. What entices one person bores another. What repulses you might get the next average Joe all hot and bothered.

Several authors, beside external factors such as economic and social, quoted inefficient coping strategies, personality traits.

A nice guy is an informal term for an often young adult male who portrays himself with characteristics such as being agreeable , gentle , compassionate , sensitive and vulnerable. When used negatively, a nice guy implies a male who is unassertive or otherwise non-masculine. It is also often used particularly in the context of dating [1] to describe someone who pretends to possess “nice guy” characteristics and uses acts of friendship and basic social etiquette with the unstated aim of progressing to a romantic or sexual relationship.

The results of the research on romantic perception of “nice guys” are mixed and often inconsistent. Studies that explicitly use the term “nice guy” sometimes cite research that does not directly use the term, but which addresses behaviours which are often associated with disingenuous “niceness”. One difficulty in studying the “nice guy” phenomenon is due to the ambiguity of the “nice guy” construct.

Participants in studies interpret “nice guy” to mean different things.

You tend to be surrounded by people you love — but you tend to hide your deepest hopes, fears, and passions inside. You want to feel inspired by the connection you create with another human being; someone you want to write about, sing about, and finally open up to. You want someone who can see the deepest depths of your soul, even pieces of yourself you have trouble accessing, and want to get closer and closer.

However, your attention can still be captured. You are totally willing to put yourself out there for love. Although you give endlessly to your relationships, you always harbor the hope that someone will invest in you as much as you invest in them, and surprise you in all the small ways that prove they really care.

For you, love is an action. A relationship is showing up every day and supporting each other.
